Marcelo Varela Quintanilla

Marcelo has always believed in looking out for his neighbors and giving back to the community he calls home. He currently works in the healthcare sector, where he works directly with patients and helps them navigate their healthcare needs. Through his work, Marcelo has seen firsthand how important it is for people to have a system that is accessible, responsive, and willing to listen.

At just 18 months old, Marcelo was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, a life-threatening genetic condition. At the time of his diagnosis, there were no approved treatments available, and his future was uncertain. Thanks to advances in medicine, Marcelo has been receiving SPINRAZA since 2018, giving him opportunities that once seemed impossible.

His experiences have shaped the way Marcelo views public service. He believes that everyone deserves to be heard, treated with respect, and given the opportunity to participate in their community. Whether through his work in healthcare or his commitment to local government, Marcelo wants to use his experiences to give back and help make Big Lake Township a stronger community for everyone.

As a candidate for Big Lake Township Supervisor, Marcelo is committed to transparent and accessible government, responsible taxpayer spending, safe roads and infrastructure, strong public safety partnerships, and listening to residents. He believes local government works best when it is accountable to the people it serves.
