Meet Marcelo Varela Quintailla
Marcelo is a Big Lake Township resident, healthcare professional, and community advocate who believes in looking out for his neighbors and giving back to the community he calls home.
At just 18 months old, Marcelo was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, a life-threatening genetic condition. At the time, there were no treatments available and his future was uncertain. Thanks to advances in medicine, Marcelo has been receiving SPINRAZA since 2018, giving him opportunities that once seemed impossible.
His experiences have shaped his commitment to public service. Marcelo is running for Big Lake Township Supervisor to bring a fresh perspective and a strong commitment to transparency, accessibility, responsible taxpayer spending, safe roads and infrastructure, and listening to residents.
He believes local government should work for the people it serves.
